World Para Athletics Championships Preview

The 11th edition of the World Para Athletics Championships will take place in Kobe, Japan from 17 to 24 May 2024. Originally due to be held there in 2021, the event was postponed twice due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, in May 2024, it will be held in Kobe for the first time in East Asia and four athletes from Wales will be part of the GB team.

Hollie Arnold Hollie has won every international title going, including Paralympic Gold in Rio in 2016 and five World titles, and will be heading to Kobe aiming to retain her status as the world's best. She'll be in action on the opening day of the programme and looking to claim the first medal for Great Britain in the Championships.

Sabrina Fortune Sabrina is another serial winner with a Paralympic Gold from Rio 2016 and two World Para Athletic titles to her name, including last year in Paris. She heads to Kobe in great shape having thrown a new lifetime best just a few weeks ago in Leamington of 14m39. She'll take to the circle in Kobe on day 3 looking to retain her title.

This will be the second World Championships for Harrison, having finished 5th in Paris last year. He also has the experience of a Commonwealth Bronze medal from Birmingham 2022 - the year in which he set his PB of 56m11. Harrison threw 54m76 just a few weeks ago in Coventry and will be looking to bring home a first World Para Athletics medal from Kobe.

Aled Davies Aled, like Hollie, has won the lot - heading to Kobe he'll be defending a run of six consecutive world titles in the shot. Across the Shot and Discus, he has 19 Paralympic, World, and European titles to his name plus Commonwealth Gold from Birmingham 2022. Aled will have to wait until the last day of the Championships to find out if he can claim a 21st global gold for Great Britain.
